Overview
Kohl is a booking platform for salons, spas, and beauty freelancers. It is built for businesses of every size, from a single freelancer to a large spa. The goal was simple tools for bookings, services, and daily operations, and a better experience for the customers booking with them.
My work covered product and market discovery, naming, and the mobile app design and prototypes. It also covered several UI directions and the final report, with surveys and a competitive audit.
2022
Role
Kohl had to work for very different users. A freelancer managing their own bookings. A large salon with many staff. And the customers booking with both. It had to handle many appointment types, provider schedules, and custom services. It had to be Arabic first and feel at home in the region. And it had to stand out from the booking apps already on the market.
We started by researching the needs of customers, providers, and admins. An early survey gave a clear direction. 82.4% of respondents preferred booking online, and 71.8% preferred a mobile app over a website. That made the mobile app the priority.
We also mapped every stakeholder, from freelancers and salon owners to beauty companies and investors. From there, we built personas, user journeys, and flows for each type of user.
We wireframed the product for mobile, tablet, and desktop. On tablet and desktop, providers and admins manage their calendar, services, specialists, and earnings.
The customer app keeps booking simple. Customers browse salons and specialists, pick a service, and choose a time that works for them. The interface is Arabic first, with a warm visual style that fits the brand.
The result was one platform for customers, providers, and admins across mobile, tablet, and desktop. Freelancers can run their own services and bookings. Admins can create and change service packages, offers, and provider details.
